Capture credit card when % at Reservation is set to '0'
To prevent incurring non-refundable fees from Stripe, we've set 'Percentage at Reservation' to '0%' and 'Collect balance at' to 30 days. Our refund policy states that no refunds will be issued within 30 days of the scheduled arrival. When a customer makes a reservation through our website more than 30 days in advance, no credit card information is captured initially. To enhance the process, we propose making a $1 authorization to verify and capture the card, ensuring a smoother transaction when processing the charge 30 days prior to arrival.
Good news! we have improved our Stripe implementation and this functionality will be released on April 8th. Here will be the new flow on the Direct Booking Site for properties set with a 0% reservation deposit:
- Guest books and enters their credit card (no payment upfront)
- Balance is automatically charged on the due date
- If the charge fails → 📧 A balance due email is sent
This is fully aligned with our auto-charge of the 2nd payment flow with Stripe.

I appreciate this work around, but that is a hefty payment all at once for many travelers. The split payment is to make it manageable for $10K+ bookings. Have you had issues with collections?

while it's not exactly the same, why not collect 1% at reservation.. the lost stripe fees will be minimal vs the lost time and money from having to deal with collections or no-pays.
