Provide a way to "REQUIRE" Upload a government-approved identification
There should be a way to require/not require the Upload a government-approved identification (especialy if the guest is booking directly with me through Hostfully/Orbirental and not outside channels). This is optional to our guests. This is not optional for me as a host as if I need to take legal action, I don't have proof that the person is who they say they are when it comes to the rental agreement.
This would help "automate" the whole process (the main reason I am using software to aid in the creation of these bookings).

YES, Government ID should be required when submitting booking information NOT requested afterward when guest isn't as engaged! Phone number and address should be required too in order for host to properly screen guests and make sure the booking guest is who they say they are! This is leaving direct bookings open to fraud and potentially leaving Host open to parties and damages

Yes require it for direct bookings but then I may still not allow instant book and would review the documentation.

We need to ask for the phone number at the reservation moment of the client. Not ask it after if they want. Sometimes we have to communicate with them fast.
Samething for the adress or only the postal code, we need to know where they come from for our statistic and to have help for the the different step of goverment, municipal, province and Fédéral. It help us to received money help to develop more offer for rental and it will help us to put more building. It help for the COVID crisis because we are in between 2 provinces who was close to each other 3 times!

Some of our properties have an HOA that requires a photo of identification to be submitted for all reservations. In the Pre-Arrival Form it would be helpful if we could make that mandatory as most people opt to not include that.

Yes, I use this with every reservation, no matter the source. Also, edit to clarify it is front only. I get the backs of IDs because they did the front and the back last... So all it is saves is the last image.... the back

I am 100% behind these efforts to require guests to upload a government ID at the time of booking. Maybe not all hosts would want this, so if there was a way to check a box that required the ID, that would fit for all hosts.
I agree with Sarah, I'd be okay with a lower conversion if it meant that my guests were who they say they are and on the up-and-up!

So the whole purpose for a pre-arrival form is to verify the guest, if they are able to submit the form without the ID it kind of defeats the purpose of the form which is to gather information and properly vetting the guest.

Getting to know our guests and ensuring they are responsible for the property they are booking is very important to us.
Looking forward to the option for ID required in the Pre-Arrival form,

Because a government issued ID is part of my contract, if it's just a picture of their family pet, the contract is void. I then do like I am doing now which is request one from them. At least this way they know they are forced to submit one (or something for that matter).
We have a 25 year old age restriction for our beach house rentals, and this will help insure that young guests are not trying to fly under the radar of the required age restrictions. This would be great to have. -

Hi Jerry and Sarah.
Thanks for your feedback. So I understand you want to have an option to require guests upload their ID if they want to complete the reservation. But we want to let you understand that while we could make it required the guest upload a photo, we won't be able to detect if the photo uploaded is a real ID or a picture of something else. Will it work for you? Let me know your idea so we can review it more.

Sorry Eric, I just noticed that you replied. I agree with Sarah. I would like to require this upload at the point of booking/signing the contract. My contract states that the contract is invalid if no ID is provided. I'm not saying this should be for all host, but and option for those who want it. "Conversion rates come second to protecting the integrity of our properties."

I think if we have it so that our setting requires guests to upload their Government ID as part of the booking flow then yes -it should be part of the booking flow. Conversion rates come second to protecting the integrity of our properties.

Hi Jerry,
Thank you for the idea. At what point would you like this information collected? Right now, we have the option to upload a government ID on the pre arrival form, which I see you are using.
Are you asking for it to be part of the booking flow and the customer not able to make a payment before they upload a photo? That may reduce the conversion rate on the direct booking website. Perhaps you are asking for the government ID upload be required on the pre arrival form before submitting?
Thanks for helping me better understand the request.
Eric
