    Thank you for voting for the idea “Automatically charge Stripe balance payments (second payment) for US guests on Vrbo.”


    We’re excited to let you know that this feature is now ready for a beta phase, and we’d love to invite interested customers to participate.


    What’s new?

    When enrolled in the beta, reservation balance payments will be automatically charged via Stripe for:

    • Vrbo reservations
    • Booking.com reservations


    How the flow works

    1. A guest books on Vrbo or Booking.com
    2. The guest pays the deposit on the channel platform (or, in the case of a 0% deposit, provides their credit card details without an initial charge)
    3. When the balance is due, Hostfully will automatically charge the remaining amount via Stripe
    4. If the automatic charge fails (e.g. insufficient funds, expired card, etc.), we will fall back to the existing flow and send the usual balance due payment request to the…
  3. At least 85% of our guests book via our direct booking website. The majority of them stay with us for 2-6 months. They always want to pay for just 1 month at a time, but Hostfully requires them to pay for the entire stay up front. This scares some potential guests away because even though we explain that we can manually just charge them for 1 month at a time, all they see is the huge total amount for the entire stay when they do a search for their dates.   4. Currently when payment fails for insufficient funds the booking goes into our calendar and blocks the dates preventing anyone else from booking. In VRBO it looks like a valid reservation. It isn't obvious to the guests or to us that there is a problem with payment so the conversation with the guest continues as usual and check in details are provided. Until I see a vague email from Hostfully saying that a payment failed. It doesn't identify the reservation. Just that a payment failed. If I hadn't been checking my email I wouldn't know.   8. Although VRBO already allows for security deposit collection, having something as well for Airbnb guests would be ideal! Automating a message 1-2 weeks prior to check-in, with a link to an invoice with deposit amount would be sufficient.

    It would be up to hosts to communicate properly with guests to set expectations that this invoice will be coming prior to their arrival.

  10. The receipt should show the actual amount paid by the guest and not the order total. If a guest has a balance left or has not paid for the security deposit, it is inaccurate for their receipt to include this.

  14. I want to collect the security deposit 7 days before checkin days, there's only booking time or checkin time available at the moment.

  15. We would like to be able to choose Vacation Rent Payment as our payment processor so we can use different VRP accounts on the property level in Hostfully.
    Our accounting systems and processes and PMS we are transitioning from allowed us to use our multiple Vacation Rent Payment accts.
    As a PM, we would like to continue to offer this service to our owners for direct deposit into their accts.

  16. If we use VacationRentPayment as a payment processor, booking requests get charged immediately. However, VRP does refund the payment processing fee on refunded transactions (if refunded within 48 hours). So the guests are getting charged before they have a confirmed reservation.

    We need to change this behavior so that guests are not charged until PMs agree to take the bookings

  18. For now, the system only has feature to refund SD automatically. We'd love a feature to issue refund for cancelled reservations automatically based on the cancellation policy set, like other channels Airbnb or Vrbo.

If under property settings 100% of the payment is not collected at the time of reservation (i.e. certain percentage will be due x days prior to checkin), then pipeline won't show the option to "send balance payment request" until the payment due date which is x days prior to checkin date. manager should be able to send the balance payment request ahead of the due date and not wait for the payment due date to send the payment request.
